October 7, 2023, was one of the darkest days in Jewish history. The ensuing war led to more painful losses. But amidst all the sadness, inspirational stories emerged. Since the war began, former MK Rabbi Dov Lipman has been posting these hopeful anecdotes – about soldiers, their families, and everyday Israelis – on his social media platforms. The Magic in the Tragic is a compilation of many of these nuggets of inspiration. A little light dispels a lot of darkness. I am grateful to you for chronicling some of these countless stories and disseminating them, so that they can continue to resound and inspire across space and time. I have no doubt that it is just the qualities that emerge from the pages of this book, qualities of selflessness and connectedness to our broader story, that will enable our nation to weather even the most trying circumstances.
